What is it?
The Clean Truck Check is a new program in California for heavy-duty trucks (over 14,000 pounds). It's designed to reduce air pollution and make sure trucks are well-maintained. The CTC-VIS Portal is where owners will register their vehicles. If you don't register your vehicles, in 2025 you will have trouble registering/getting tags. We aim to assist owners in cities like Sacramento, Oakland, and Modesto in understanding the importance of compliance and the benefits of maintaining their trucks. Join us in making California's air cleaner and safer for everyone.
What does it mean for diesel truck and motorhome owners?
1. You'll need to report information about your business and trucks to a new database by December 31, 2024.
2. You'll have to pay $30 per truck for 2023 & 2024.
3. Your trucks will need to pass emissions tests regularly.
What information do you need to report?
About your business:
- Owner name
- Company name
- Address
- Contact details
About each truck:
- VIN
- License plate number
- Registration state
- Fuel type
- Model year
What happens if you don't comply?
You could face fines or have your truck registrations blocked. Also, starting in 2024, companies you work with will need to check if you're compliant.
How will it work?
- There will be roadside emissions monitoring.
- Trucks will undergo periodic testing.
- The program will use on-board diagnostics data.
- Freight contractors, seaports, and railyards will need to verify compliance.
When does it start?
This California emissions program is being phased in, it already started back in January 2023, with full implementation over the next few years.
